"Hay-fever" or seasonal allergies are characterized by nasal stuffiness, sneezing, nasal itching, clear nasal discharge, and itching of the roof of the mouth and/or ear.
Asthma is a chronic disease where your airways are oversensitive and inflamed. The tubes that bring air into our lungs are called airways or bronchioles, these airways are more sensitive in people who have asthma. During asthma flares the airway lining becomes inflamed, swells and makes more mucus. This process narrows the airways and reduces airflow. The muscles around the airway begin to tighten and lowers the airflow. This may cause difficulty breathing. This chronic disease affects over 20 million Americans. There are many triggers to asthma, however with proper management, people can live healthy and active lives.
Most prevalent in very young children and frequently outgrown, food allergies are characterized by a broad range of allergic reactions. Symptoms may include itching or swelling of lips or tongue; tightness of the throat with hoarseness; nausea and vomiting; diarrhea; occasionally chest tightness and wheezing; itching of the eyes; decreased blood pressure or loss of consciousness and anaphylaxis.
